I am a big proponent of the utilization of online technology to assist in the achieving of academic goals. It seems amazing to me that we still teach students to scribble on paper in grade school when we have all this technology available at our fingertips.
Personally, I believe parents should teach young students to type as early as possible. The earlier students learn to type the easier the transition will be to the utilization of computers- something that today is mandatory for almost any college.
